An old-world gem with modern flair in New York City’s trend-setting NoMad district

Ornate plaster ceilings from 1905. Mid-century modern furnishings. Pre-war styling and original features. The HGU New York boutique hotel embraces the past, but looks firmly to the future. From the jazz nights and classic glamour to the state-of-the-art spa treatments and lobby turned art gallery, HGU is a vibrant clash of old and new in the NoMad district of Manhattan.

Of course, there’s more to HGU New York than meets the eye. Call on your personal pillow concierge to get a blissful night’s sleep. Arrange some in-room IV infusion therapy to restore your nutrient levels. Or peruse the contemporary art collection with works by Fab 5 Freddy and Carlos Quintana. As the sun goes down, the HGU really comes to life. Kick back with a cocktail at Jazz Night in the Rose Hill Lounge, or head to the rooftop bar and watch the city sparkle.

modern update on classic old building with amenities to boot!

The staff members were cordial, assistance with bags cheerfully offered, great experience in the restaurant/bar for 'tween meal offerings and breakfast in the lobby bar.

Great location & friendly staff

The hotel & the location was great, and the staff were very friendly. The gym partnership that the hotel has is an additional bonus for people who like fitness, and the classes included were really good. A small improvement could be in the breakfast, where guests could select their choice of breakfast Read more[SPLIT]Read lessfor the value of the voucher.

I stayed for a fun weekend to catch up with friends

I arrived on Thursday afternoon and my room wasn't ready, but that was ok since I had a late lunch planned with friends. I left my luggage and headed out. The hotel was very quite, which was great because I'm a light sleeper. Loved my stay! I'll be back this is now my "go to" hotel in NYC.

Very convenient location

Calm and quiet. Great location. Expected more of the rooms. No views, little light even with sunlight. Had near a ventilation system which made noise night/day.

dirty run down hotel, not worth to be part of SLH

The hotel was in a run down stage. The corridor carpet leading to the room was filthy and dirty. We booked extra a suite with bed room and separate living room. It was located at 2nd floor facing a wall. In front of both windows were small terrace which was full of garbage and some construction left Read more[SPLIT]Read lessover material. We could not slide the curtains aside. The room carpet was dirty. We showed the room to the manager and he was also shocked about the condition, but could also not offer any other room. We had booked for a week, however we decided immediately to leave the hotel even as we had already checked in. The manager agreed to cancel the reservation and check in, this was the only good thing in the hotel. Never again this hotel.

Four people in the party...overnigt stay before travelling further... at two times.

We were four people in a suite ... a bit crowdy.. but we had an upgrade to the Lennon - Yoko Ono suite with two bathrooms, at our second stay and that helped us a lot. The first suite booked only had one bathroom.

Great location but missed on the little things ...

The hotel was pleasant. It was in a great location with the subway just around the corner. We were surprised of how quiet our room was in the big city. But there were some small things that they couldn’t get right. We had requested a specific type of pillow from the pillow menu. For three days they Read more[SPLIT]Read lesscouldn’t seem to have them delivered to our room. We also ran out of toilet paper. They do not keep a back up roll anywhere in the room. And the service at the restaurant downstairs was pretty bad. Also no one in hotel could make a latte from there espresso machine. Most mornings we stood around waiting for someone to seat us, greet us for service etc. It could be that they were just a very understaffed. Overall we would stay here again but probably try to venture out for breakfasts for a better experience.
