The Arch London

Classical yet contemporary, the golden age of hotel glamour is alive at The Arch London. Set in a quiet enclave, but a stone’s throw from London’s most popular sights, it’s the ultimate urban bolthole. The original seven townhouses that make up this boutique retreat date back to the 18th century. But inside, designer touches and prints by rising stars of the art world bring it right up to date. As one of the few remaining family owned and managed hotels in London, The Arch London is known for its warm hospitality and intimate family feel.

Start in the Martini Library, where snug armchairs, fireplaces and bookshelves lend the hotel a sense of timeless luxury. You could order afternoon tea, or opt for a pre-dinner martini. When it’s time for a second, simply press the ‘top-up button’. Or swap cocktails for fine fizz in the vintage surrounds of Le Salon de Champagne. Upstairs, the rooms and suites promise a blissful place to end the day. Expect hand-printed wallpaper and plush furnishings, alongside rainfall showers, Nespresso machines and a complimentary soft drink mini bar. Plus a pillow menu for the perfect night’s sleep.

After breakfast, you couldn’t be better placed to explore the capital’s top attractions. Marble Arch and Hyde Park are a whisper away from The Arch. While the ever-popular Oxford Street and Bond Street are practically on the hotel doorstep.

NEIGHBOURHOOD GUIDE

  • The best experience close to the hotel is: diving into The Regent’s Park, where you can try everything from trapeze classes to pond dipping. Of course, spanning almost 400 acres, it’s just as lovely for walking the John Nash landscapes, admiring over 400 rose varieties and spotting some of the 100+ species of wild birds.
  • The most unique spot nearby is: Wigmore Hall that holds classical music recital – an alternative to an evening in the West End. The venue is over a century old, making the interiors just as captivating as the performances that happen here.
  • Our hidden gem is: our hotel-wide gallery of works by up-and-coming artists. Take the bedrooms. They feature one-off pieces of art created from wartime love letters between a couple called Maud and Frank.
  • Guests can live like a local by: going along to the curious-sounding ‘Cabbages and Frocks Market’ on a Saturday. Right in the midst of Marylebone Village, within the grounds of St. Marylebone Parish Church, it’s the place to pick up one-of-a-kind trinkets and fashions.
  • Our favourite local restaurant is: a close call. It’s between Michelin-starred Texture, with its Champagne bar and inventive Scandinavian-inspired menus designed to excite all the senses, and L’Autre Pied.
  • Our favourite time of year here is: when the sun comes out and we begin filling quintessential picnic hampers with delicious treats for our guests. Pair them with a soft blanket and the backdrop of Hyde Park, and you have a sublime British summer’s day.
  • There’s no place in the world like: the inside of the Wallace Collection. Its 25 galleries are brimming with Old Master artworks, sculpture and historical artefacts, all within a beautiful London townhouse. Don’t miss the Great Gallery – said to be one of the finest picture galleries in Europe. If the weather is on side, take tea in the courtyard bistro.
  • The most adventurous thing to do near here is: to go boating on The Regent’s Park lake, Wind in the Willows style. Or, discover how zoos aren’t just for children. ZSL London Zoo runs adults-only visitor nights after dark in summer – and it’s a gazelle hop away from The Arch.
  • The best selfie/photo spot nearby is: Hyde Park or the south side of The Regent’s Park during cherry blossom season. No filter needed here in April and May.
  • For a breathtaking view, guests should go to: Brown Hart roof gardens by day. An old electricity substation may not seem that glitzy, but this chic café-bar is a breath of fresh air. Look down at the frenetic Oxford Street shoppers, cappuccino in hand, and enjoy the peace. At night, you can’t beat rooftop cocktail bar, Aqua Spirit, for high-end glamour.
  • The ideal night here would be to: begin with fizz in Le Salon de Champagne, here at The Arch. Then find your way to prohibition-style Purl. More than just cocktails, this speakeasy practices molecular mixology – injecting a dash of drama into its drinks.
